The Detour Lake Gold Mining Project was a big winner at the 2014 Canadian Consulting Engineering Awards in Winnipeg, Oct. 23.
The Cochrane-area development received the Engineering a Better Canada Award given to a project that demonstrates how engineering “enhances the social, economic or cultural quality of the life of Canadians.”
The Association of Consulting Engineering Companies – Canada and Canadian Consulting Engineering magazine presented 20 Awards of Excellence for engineering projects with five being Special Achievement Awards.
Receiving one of 15 Awards of Excellence was Hatch for its study identifying the most cost-effective hydropower sites in Northern Ontario’s six major watersheds.
The study, written for the Ontario Waterpower Association, is said to benefit remote off-grid First Nation communities and any future development that should occur in the Ring of Fire mining region.
